Pakistani singer and songwriter Ali Zafar has announced he will reward Arshad Nadeem with one million rupees for his historic victory in the men’s javelin throw at the Paris Olympics 2024. Nadeem, who set a new world record with a 92.97m throw, secured Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic gold in track and field, and the country’s first medal in this event in 32 years.
In addition to the financial reward, Zafar has called on the Government of Pakistan to recognize Nadeem’s achievement by establishing a sports academy in his name. He also urged for a grand national welcome for Nadeem, emphasizing the need for greater support for Pakistani athletes. If our athletes and sportsmen start getting the support they deserve, we can win 10 golds a year,” Zafar wrote.
Arshad Nadeem, 27, became a national hero as he celebrated his victory wrapped in Pakistan’s national flag. The javelin throw finals, held on August 8, saw Nadeem outperform his friend and competitor Neeraj Chopra from India, who won silver at the Paris Olympics after securing gold in Tokyo.
The emotional moment was shared with enthusiastic supporters who gathered in large numbers to witness the historic event. Nadeem’s triumph not only marks a significant achievement for him but also highlights the potential for future success in Pakistani athletics.
