Rachel Zegler, who gained prominence with her acclaimed role in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake of West Side Story, continues to make headlines. Following her appearances in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Zegler now takes on the iconic role of Snow White in Disney’s live-action reimagining of the 1937 animated classic, the first-ever feature-length animated film.
The new adaptation, described as a live-action musical, will revisit the beloved tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The updated synopsis promises a magical journey featuring cherished characters including Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy.
However, the film has faced criticism from actor Peter Dinklage. In 2022, Dinklage voiced strong objections to Disney’s decision to remake the film, labeling the move as “backwards.” He expressed his dismay at the casting of a Latina actress in the lead role, questioning the modern relevance of the story’s depiction of dwarves in a fantasy context, and criticized the overall approach to the film’s portrayal of these characters.
The cast of this new Snow White includes Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman, Dujonna Gift as Maple, and Martin Klebba as Grumpy. Directed by Marc Webb, the film features a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.
Before Snow White makes its debut, Disney will release Mufasa: The Lion King, a live-action prequel to The Lion King. Directed by Barry Jenkins and written by Jeff Nathanson, Mufasa is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2024.
The live-action Snow White is set to premiere in UK cinemas on March 21, 2025.
