Rachael Lillis, known for her roles as Misty and Jessie in the Pokémon series, has passed away at the age of 46 after a battle with breast cancer. Lillis, who contributed her voice to the Pokémon TV series, films, and video games, died on August 10, following a diagnosis in May.
The news of her death was shared on social media by her sister, Laurie Orr, and her Pokémon co-star Veronica Taylor, who voiced Ash Ketchum. Taylor paid tribute to Lillis on Instagram, describing her as “an extraordinary talent” and highlighting her iconic performances as Misty and Jessie. Taylor expressed gratitude for the support Lillis received during her illness and requested privacy for the grieving family.
Orr provided details on Lillis’ GoFundMe page, noting that her health had rapidly declined in her final week. “She passed peacefully Saturday night, without pain, and for that we are grateful,” Orr wrote. She also mentioned the family’s shock and sorrow at the unexpected turn of events and requested peace as they mourn.
Fans have taken to social media to honor Lillis, reflecting on her significant impact on their lives. One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, described her passing as a personal loss, while others praised her talent and the joy she brought through her roles.
The Pokémon franchise, which depicts a world where humans and creatures known as Pokémon coexist, benefited greatly from Lillis’ contributions. She voiced characters in 423 episodes of the series between 1997 and 2015.
The Pokémon community, along with fans and colleagues, will remember Lillis for her memorable voice work and the beloved characters she brought to life.
