Iconic rock legends ZZ Top, joined by special guest The Sedonas, will bring their renowned blues-driven guitar work and distinctive style to 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial in downtown Johnstown. The concert is part of “The Elevation Tour.”
Chad Mearns, marketing and box office manager at 1st Summit Arena, expressed excitement about hosting the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers. “These guys are Rock & Roll Hall of Famers and legends, and it’s really exciting to get them to come into the city and our stage here to perform for our local fans,” Mearns said. He anticipates a memorable night for all attendees.
ZZ Top, renowned for their signature beards and blues-infused rock, formed in Houston in late 1969 from the remnants of Billy Gibbons’ Moving Sidewalks and Frank Beard and Dusty Hill’s American Blues. Their breakthrough came with the 1973 album “Tres Hombres” and its hit single “La Grange,” which remains a staple in their repertoire.
The band’s 1983 album “Eliminator” marked a significant shift, blending their classic blues sound with contemporary elements. The album’s visual style, highlighted by MTV hits like “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs,” contributed to its Diamond certification for U.S. sales exceeding 10 million units.
Mearns promises an evening of rock classics and hidden gems. “ZZ Top is a band that’s been around for many years, and has put out such great music that people are going to have a good time even if they come only knowing a few songs,” he said.
With a career spanning over five decades, ZZ Top has performed across four continents and was the subject of a Grammy-nominated documentary, “That Little Ol’ Band from Texas.” The band has released 15 studio albums and sold an estimated 50 million records worldwide.
“The music is what it’s all about,” Mearns noted. “ZZ Top’s appeal transcends one genre, so this is a show for anybody who enjoys music, concerts, and having a good time.”
Interest in the concert is strong, though tickets remain available at prices ranging from $53.75 to $103.75.
