Jack Russell, the renowned frontman of the rock band Great White, has died at the age of 63. Russell’s death was announced by Jack Russell’s Great White, the band he led after Great White’s split in 2001. The announcement was made via Instagram on Thursday, revealing that Russell passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife, son, cousin, and two close friends.

The statement from the band highlights Russell’s vibrant personality and significant contributions to rock music. “Jack is loved and remembered for his sense of humor, exceptional zest for life, and unshakeable contribution to rock and roll where his legacy will forever thrive,” the statement read. Great White gained fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s with hits such as “The Angel Song,” “Rock Me,” and their iconic track “Once Bitten Twice Shy,” which reached #5 on the charts in 1989. Following the band’s dissolution in 2001, Russell continued to perform under the name Jack Russell’s Great White.

In a tragic chapter of the band’s history, a 2003 performance at The Station nightclub in Rhode Island was marred by a fire caused by the band’s pyrotechnics, resulting in 100 fatalities and 230 injuries. The tour manager and one of the nightclub’s owners were later sentenced to prison for their roles in the disaster.

Russell’s passing marks the end of an era for rock music enthusiasts who remember him for his powerful voice and enduring impact on the genre.
