The immense respect for Shane MacGowan, the iconic frontman of The Pogues, became glaringly apparent following his death last November. Known for his profound impact on both peers and future generations, MacGowan’s legacy continues to resonate deeply.
In a heartfelt homage, the Wexford Spiegeltent Festival will feature a major tribute to MacGowan, showcasing prominent names from the Irish music scene. Sharon Shannon, fresh from her performances at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, will lead her ‘Big Band’ in a celebration of MacGowan’s renowned and cherished works.
Joining Shannon for this special event are Imelda May, Camille O’Sullivan, Liam Ó Maonlaí, and Mundy. The concert holds special meaning as MacGowan had previously toured with The Big Band, significantly influencing their musical path.
Shannon reflects on the tribute: “I miss Shane dearly and am honored to have called him a friend. Although we lost Shane, with support from his sister Siobhán and widow Victoria, we are thrilled to honor him with this ‘dream come true’ lineup.”
The tribute, “A Tribute to Shane MacGowan,” will be held under the Spiegeltent’s big top on Thursday, October 24.
