Award-winning singer Kirk Franklin and the acclaimed Maverick City Music group have arrived in Nairobi from Uganda, where they recently captivated audiences at Makerere University. They will perform at Uhuru Gardens on August 17, 2024, as part of their Kingdom World Tour, with gates opening at 5 PM.
The Kingdom World Tour has previously seen the group entertain large crowds in cities such as Johannesburg, Harare, Lusaka, Lilongwe, and Dar es Salaam.
Founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 2018 by songwriters Tony Brown and Jonathan Jay, Maverick City Music has evolved into a Grammy Award-winning gospel group. The collective, which has collaborated with prominent gospel artists like Chandler Moore and Tasha Cobbs, has released over 10 albums and 100 songs in less than a decade. Hits such as “Jireh,” “Kingdom,” and “Promises” are popular in Kenya. The group also recently worked with Zimbabwean gospel artist Annatoriah on an Afrobeat version of their song “In The Room.”
Kirk Franklin, a transformative figure in contemporary gospel music since the 1997 release of “Stomp,” has influenced the genre with his energetic and multicultural approach. With 19 Grammy Awards and numerous accolades, Franklin’s concerts are known for their high energy and strong audience connection.
