Marvel Studios and Disney’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” has achieved a new milestone, becoming the highest-grossing U.S. R-rated movie of all time globally. As of Thursday, the film has earned $1,085.6 million worldwide, breaking down to $516.8 million from domestic ticket sales and $568.8 million from international markets.
This record surpasses the previous highest-grossing R-rated film, “Joker,” which held the title since October 2019. At that time, “Joker” had outpaced 2016’s “Deadpool,” which had a total global gross of $783 million. It’s worth noting that “Deadpool 2” earned $785 million globally, including $47 million from a PG-13 cut.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” crossed the $1 billion mark last weekend, making it only the second U.S. R-rated film to achieve this feat, with “Joker” being the first. Notably, “Deadpool & Wolverine” reached this milestone faster than “Joker,” which did not have a release in China.
As of yesterday, “Deadpool & Wolverine” added $11.9 million globally to its total, including $4.5 million from domestic markets and $7.4 million from international markets. The top overseas markets for the film are: the UK ($58.7 million), China ($57.1 million), Mexico ($39.6 million), Australia ($33.2 million), Germany ($27.3 million), France ($26.6 million), Brazil ($22.9 million), Spain ($20.6 million), India ($18.4 million), and Italy ($16.5 million).
Since its release at the end of July, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has performed exceptionally well, far surpassing the final totals of both “Deadpool” and “Deadpool 2” in all markets. It currently stands as the second highest-grossing film of the year, following Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” and remains the only other film to surpass $1 billion in 2024.
