Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is making a leap from the football field to the big screen. Kelce, who has garnered significant attention through his high-profile relationship with pop star Taylor Swift and various television appearances, is set to star in the upcoming action comedy film “Loose Cannons.”
Kelce is in negotiations to join the cast of the film, which is being developed by Lionsgate. The project will be produced by Chad Stahelski, known for his work on the “John Wick” series, and his partner Jason Spitz through their 87Eleven Entertainment banner. The script is penned by Tim Dowling, whose previous work includes the Adam Sandler comedy “Just Go With It.”
“Loose Cannons” is described as having a similar tone to classic action comedies such as “Lethal Weapon,” “Bad Boys,” and “Rush Hour.” The film revolves around the concept of police precincts staffed with out-of-control, rule-breaking officers who are paired with equally unorthodox partners.
The timing of Kelce’s potential film role is uncertain, particularly with the 2024 NFL season approaching. Nevertheless, the film project represents a significant milestone in Kelce’s expanding entertainment career.
Kelce has previously ventured into acting with a guest role in Showtime’s “Moonbase 8” in 2020 and hosted “Saturday Night Live” in March 2023. He is also set to host “Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?” a spinoff of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?,” which will premiere on Amazon Prime on October 16. This launch date coincides with the NFL’s bye week for the Chiefs.
In addition to his upcoming television hosting duties, Kelce will appear in Ryan Murphy’s FX series “Grotesquerie,” a horror drama set to debut in September. The series, which follows a detective investigating a series of gruesome crimes, will feature Kelce in a currently undisclosed role. Kelce has admitted to feeling like an “amateur” on set but has expressed enthusiasm for the experience.
As Kelce prepares for the new NFL season with the Chiefs, the team is poised for a potential Super Bowl “three-peat.” With the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens scheduled for September 5 at Arrowhead Stadium, Kelce’s on-field and off-field endeavors continue to attract significant attention.
