In a significant move for Tamil Nadu politics, Tamil actor Vijay unveiled the flag and symbol of his newly formed political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), during a ceremony in Chennai on Thursday. The event marked a notable step in Vijay’s political journey as he highlighted the party’s commitment to social justice.
The TVK flag features a striking design of red and maroon on the top and bottom sections, with a vibrant yellow band in the middle. The central motif includes two elephants and a Vaagai flower, emblematic of victory and strength. Alongside the flag, the party also introduced its flag anthem, which was shared on its official social media platforms.
During the unveiling ceremony, Vijay hinted at a deeper significance of the TVK flag, which he promised to fully reveal at an upcoming state-level conference. This event is anticipated to provide further insights into the party’s vision and plans.
The actor initially announced the launch of TVK on February 2, articulating a vision for “fundamental political change” within Tamil Nadu’s governance. His commitment to a transparent, caste-free, and corruption-free administration was a cornerstone of his announcement. Vijay has expressed his intention for the TVK to participate actively in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The formation of TVK followed the endorsement from Vijay’s fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, which approved the establishment of the new political entity during a meeting in Chennai earlier this year.
Notably, TVK did not field candidates in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections nor did it support any party in the by-election for the Vikravandi Assembly seat, which was retained by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in July.
