Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have released the trailer for their upcoming animated feature, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, known for Blade Runner: Black Lotus, the film is “presented” by Peter Jackson, the visionary behind the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The film’s voice cast includes Miranda Otto, who reprises her role as Éowyn from Jackson’s trilogy and serves as the film’s narrator. Brian Cox stars as Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan, while Gaia Wise voices his daughter, Héra. The cast also features Luke Pasqualino as Wulf, Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitski.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is set 183 years before the events of the original trilogy. The story revolves around the House of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan, as they face an unexpected assault by Wulf, a cunning and vengeful Dunlending lord. Wulf seeks to avenge his father’s death, forcing Helm and his people to make a final stand at the ancient fortress of the Hornburg, which will later be known as Helm’s Deep. In the midst of the battle, Héra must find the strength to lead the resistance against a formidable enemy determined to destroy them.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is slated to hit theaters on December 13th.
