First Trailer for English-Language Debut ‘The Room Next Door’ Revealed

by Barbara

The first trailer for “The Room Next Door,” featuring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, has been unveiled in anticipation of its upcoming premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month. The film, directed by renowned Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, marks his debut in English-language cinema.

The trailer, which showcases Almodóvar’s signature bold color palette, notably includes no dialogue apart from a single scream from Swinton’s character, Martha. The film is a relationship drama centered on the reunion of former friends Ingrid (Moore) and Martha. The two, who once worked together at a magazine, reconnect under unusual circumstances after years of separation.

Scenes in the trailer depict Martha in a hospital bed with Ingrid by her side, a tense car ride, and a poignant ‘goodbye’ note. The scream occurs when Martha, returning home with Ingrid, searches through a bag.

Adapted from Sigrid Nunez’s 2020 novel “What Are You Going Through,” the film continues to build anticipation. Earlier this year, Moore starred in the historical drama “Mary & George,” which received a four-star review from Digital Spy. She is also set to appear in the action thriller “Control” opposite James McAvoy. Swinton will be seen next in “The Ballad of a Small Player,” directed by Edward Berger, alongside Colin Farrell.
