Venice Film Festival Opens with Premiere of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”

by Barbara

The 81st Venice Film Festival has commenced with Hollywood flair, featuring the world premiere of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” on Wednesday. The film, a sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 classic horror-comedy “Beetlejuice,” stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara, and Monica Bellucci, all set to walk the red carpet.

In this new installment, the Deetz family returns to their country home following the death of Charles. Ryder reprises her role as Lydia, now a mother to her teenage daughter Astrid, portrayed by Ortega, known for her role in Netflix’s “Wednesday.” The plot unfolds as Astrid discovers an old model city in the attic, unleashing Keaton’s iconic ghoul.

The festival, held on the Lido island since 1932, will also feature out-of-competition premieres later in the week, including George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s “Wolfs” and Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 2” on September 7, followed by the awards ceremony.
