Kannada actor Darshan was transferred to Ballari Prison on Thursday morning under tight police security. Darshan, who has been in Parappana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru for over two months on murder charges related to Renukaswamy’s death, was moved due to allegations of receiving special treatment at his previous facility. The actor, dressed in a black branded T-shirt and jeans, arrived at Ballari Prison around 10 a.m. His transfer, carried out early in the morning, was accompanied by a significant police presence ensuring his secure transport.
News of Darshan’s transfer quickly attracted a large crowd of fans to the area around the prison and along the approach road, eager to catch a glimpse of the actor. Some fans followed the police convoy, capturing photos and videos with their mobile phones. To manage the crowds and maintain order, additional police forces were deployed at key roads and junctions, particularly around Jail Road. Superintendent of Police Dr. Shobha Rani personally oversaw the security arrangements, making multiple visits to the prison on Wednesday and Thursday to ensure all measures were in place.
Despite the fan presence, police successfully kept the roads clear, allowing traffic to flow smoothly. After completing the necessary paperwork, Darshan is expected to undergo a medical examination before being assigned to a cell within the prison. Ballari Prison, with a capacity of 447 inmates, currently houses 385 prisoners and offers both barracks and individual cells, with Darshan anticipated to be held in an individual cell.
The transfer decision followed controversy over photos and videos that surfaced online, allegedly showing Darshan enjoying privileges such as drinking coffee, smoking, and engaging in video calls while in custody. As a result, authorities relocated several accused individuals involved in the case to different prisons, including Darshan. “We’ve been waiting here since yesterday, hoping to see him, but the heavy police security has kept us from catching a glimpse,” said a fan from a nearby village, reflecting the intense public interest in the case.
