Netflix has revealed the first teaser trailer and premiere date for The Shadow Strays, the highly anticipated action film directed by Timo Tjahjanto. The Indonesian film centers on Codename 13, a young assassin who faces suspension after a failed mission. The plot follows 13 as she forms a bond with Monji, a boy mourning his mother’s death at the hands of a crime syndicate. When Monji goes missing, 13 embarks on a dangerous quest to find him, challenging both her mentor and the organization known as “The Shadows.”
The Shadow Strays is set to premiere on Netflix on October 17. Before its streaming debut, the film will have its first screening at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness sidebar in September.
The cast features Aurora Ribero, Hana Malasan, Ali Fikry, Adipati Dolken, and Andri Mashadi. Tjahjanto, already a prominent figure in Asian cinema, is also slated to direct Nobody 2, the sequel to the successful Bob Odenkirk-led action movie. His previous works include Netflix’s The Big 4 (2022), May the Devil Take You (2018), The Night Comes for Us (2018), and Shudder’s May the Devil Take You Too (2020).
