The trailer for Tyler Perry’s upcoming World War II drama, Six Triple Eight, was released on Wednesday, showcasing an all-Black female army division navigating wartime challenges. The film portrays the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-female unit of color in WWII, as they face severe sexism, racism, and dangerous conditions while dedicatedly serving their country.
In the trailer, Kerry Washington, who plays Major Charity Adams, the battalion’s commanding officer, delivers a powerful message: “Soldiers, you must be perfect. You don’t have the luxury to be good. You have the burden to be better. I need women who have had to fight to survive.” Washington’s character emphasizes the challenges and determination of her unit, stating, “I am giving you my best. And you will give me yours. A lot of people do not want us to succeed. We have the most to prove.”
The film, inspired by the Women’s Army Corps unit’s history and based on Kevin Hymel’s article “Fighting A Two-Front War,” features a star-studded cast including Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, and Oprah Winfrey. It also features an original song, “The Journey,” by Diane Warren, performed by H.E.R.
Six Triple Eight is part of Tyler Perry’s multi-year agreement with Netflix. The film will debut in select theaters on December 6 and stream on Netflix starting December 20.
