Filmmaker F. Javier Gutiérrez Unveils New Folk Horror Film, ‘The Wait’

by Barbara

Spanish filmmaker F. Javier Gutiérrez, known for “Before the Fall” and “Rings,” returns with his latest project, “The Wait” (“La Espera”), a folk horror film set in the enigmatic Andalusian countryside. Film Movement will release “The Wait” on VOD and digital platforms on October 4.

The film’s official trailer, featuring numerous positive reviews, is available for an exclusive first look. “The Wait” is Gutiérrez’s “most intimate and brutal film” and a “love letter to the horror/fantasy genre,” depicting a man’s harrowing descent into despair following a family tragedy.

Set in rural Andalusia, the film follows Eladio (Victor Clavijo), a groundskeeper who, after accepting a bribe from his employer Don Francisco, faces a spiral of guilt and vengeance. Produced by Spal Films, Nostromo Pictures, and Unfiled Films, the movie also stars Ruth Díaz, Manuel Morón, and Luis Callejo.

Gutiérrez has been quietly working on this personal project while preparing a remake of Bigas Luna’s cult horror film “Anguish” (1987).
