In Jon Watts’s latest film, “Wolfs,” George Clooney and Brad Pitt reunite for the first time in sixteen years, delivering a compelling action comedy that balances star power with a touch of nostalgia. The film’s plot centers around two seasoned fixers, portrayed by Clooney and Pitt, who are inadvertently hired to complete the same job. What starts as a routine cleanup of a murder scene quickly escalates into a complex ordeal involving a powerful district attorney (Amy Ryan), a mysterious drug-laden backpack, and an unexpectedly alive victim, played by Austin Abrams, who is only identified as “Kid.”
Despite the familiar setup of mismatched partners navigating a high-stakes situation, Watts skillfully uses this well-trodden narrative to highlight the chemistry between the two leads. The film effectively channels the charm of the Clooney-Pitt duo, reminiscent of their dynamic in “Ocean’s 11,” while allowing them to showcase their physical acting skills through dynamic action sequences. Clooney and Pitt’s portrayal of smooth, experienced fixers—complete with expertly timed gunplay and door-kicking—demonstrates their enduring on-screen charisma.
What sets “Wolfs” apart is its underlying sincerity. Watts’s film explores the theme of the “lone wolf,” with Clooney and Pitt embodying characters who have spent their lives working in isolation and distrust.
