Brian Trueman, Creator of Iconic Cartoon ‘Danger Mouse,’ Passes Away

Brian Trueman, the esteemed writer behind the beloved Manchester-produced cartoon Danger Mouse, has passed away at the age of 92. The news was confirmed by his son, Ben Trueman.

Trueman, who had a diverse career as a broadcaster and actor, is most renowned for his role in creating Danger Mouse, a whimsical cartoon that became a staple of 1980s children’s television. The show, produced by Cosgrove Hall Films based in Chorlton, featured the intrepid secret agent Danger Mouse and his bumbling sidekick, Penfold. During its original run from 1981 to 1992, the series gained significant popularity, with actor David Jason providing the voice for Danger Mouse at a time when he was also gaining fame from Only Fools and Horses. Later versions of the show saw voices from Alexander Armstrong among others.

A career in television and radio that included Children’s Hour, Clitheroe Kid, Scene at 6.30, Granada Reports, Brass Tacks, Screen Test. He may be best known as the writer of and actor in Danger Mouse, Duckula, Jamie and the Magic Torch, Cockleshell Bay, Chorlton and the Wheelies, etc. He was clever, funny, resilient, an absolute gentleman, loving and loved. We will all miss him so much.”

Brian Trueman’s legacy continues to resonate with fans and colleagues, who remember him not only for his creative genius but also for his warmth and kindness.
