The beloved animated adaptation of Beetlejuice has made a comeback. Fans of the cult classic can now stream all four seasons of the series at no cost on Tubi.
The complete run of the Beetlejuice cartoon is available on the free streaming platform, conveniently timed just days before the release of the highly anticipated sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which is set to hit theaters on September 6. The series originally aired from 1989 to 1991, with its first three seasons broadcast on ABC before transitioning to Fox. It garnered significant acclaim during its run, even earning a tie with The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh for Outstanding Animated Program at the 1990 Daytime Emmy Awards.
Created by Tim Burton, the director of both the original Beetlejuice film and its upcoming sequel, the animated series featured writing by Patsy Cameron and Tedd Anasti. The show followed the misadventures of Lydia Deetz and the mischievous Beetlejuice as they navigated both the mortal world and the whimsical Neitherworld, with episodes often parodying popular movies and television shows. Stephen Ouimette, known for voicing Archangel in X-Men: The Animated Series, provided the voice of Beetlejuice, while Alyson Court, who also voiced Jubilee in the X-Men series, played Lydia Deetz.
Court expressed her enthusiasm for her role as Lydia, recalling her deep connection to the character. “I was obsessed with the movie. It was my first year of high school when it came out. I was her, dressed all in black,” she said. Court also voiced her hope for a revival of the animated series, noting, “I would love to revisit Beetlejuice. I don’t see why we can’t have a [revival]. Yeah, there’s rumors, but… I think that would be a fun one to bring back.”
The animated series was a direct adaptation of the 1988 film Beetlejuice, which also inspired a range of spin-offs including video games and a stage musical that debuted in 2018. With the new film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder return to their iconic roles as Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz, respectively.
For those looking to revisit the nostalgic series or explore it for the first time, Beetlejuice is currently streaming on Tubi, while Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to premiere in theaters on September 6.
