Legendary director Tim Burton was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone ahead of the release of his new film, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” The ceremony, held in front of Hollywood Toys & Costumes on Hollywood Boulevard, saw notable attendees including Winona Ryder, who starred in the 1988 “Beetlejuice,” and actors Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito.
Ryder and Keaton praised Burton for his creativity and inclusiveness. Ryder noted, “When I met you, I was a weird kid…You make being a weird girl not just OK, but something to celebrate and even kind of cool.”
Fans embraced the occasion by donning costumes from their favorite Burton films. L.A. resident Amber Martin shared, “I did a mash-up of my two favorite characters. I did Lydia mixed with a little Mrs. Lovett and he did Beetlejuice.”
Burton’s star is situated in front of Hollywood Toys & Costumes, a place of personal significance for the director. Burton reflected, “I’ve been coming since I was a child, ever since I’ve been walking the streets of Hollywood when I was a little boy, coming to this toy shop, which is still here, which is incredible.”
The store honored Burton by dedicating a wall of costumes and toys in his name. Natalie Moazzez, CEO of Hollywood Toys & Costumes, expressed, “Just imagining how our store played some kind of role in expanding his imagination and possibly inspiring him in the formative years of his early career is something that is so personal to us.”
Burton, a Burbank native, is renowned for his diverse filmography, including classics such as 1989’s “Batman,” “Edward Scissorhands,” and stop-motion favorites like “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Corpse Bride.”
