‘Will & Harper’: A Road Trip of Friendship and Transformation”

by Barbara

Netflix is set to premiere a compelling new documentary, Will & Harper, this month, showcasing an emotional journey of friendship and personal growth. The film follows comedian Will Ferrell and his best friend Harper Steele as they embark on a road trip following Steele’s transition as a trans woman.

The documentary highlights the deep bond between Ferrell and Steele, who first met during their early days on Saturday Night Live. While Ferrell became a prominent on-screen figure, leading numerous sketches, Steele made her mark behind the scenes as a writer. Her exceptional contributions eventually earned her the role of head writer, a position previously held by notable figures such as Tina Fey, Adam McKay, and Lorne Michaels.

The film presents two intertwined narratives. From Ferrell’s perspective, viewers witness his personal journey of overcoming prejudices and embracing his friend’s new identity. Conversely, Steele’s story reflects her struggles and feelings of alienation in a country that she feels is not fully accepting of her identity. The road trip serves as a backdrop for the duo to reconnect and navigate this new phase of Steele’s life together.

The documentary currently boasts a rare 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its authentic and intimate portrayal of friendship and identity.

Will & Harper will debut in selected theaters on September 13 and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting September 27.
