Sarah Paulson, renowned for her role in “American Horror Story,” is set to immerse herself in the grim realities of the 1930s Dust Bowl with her latest film, Hold Your Breath. Set against the backdrop of Oklahoma’s environmental catastrophe, the film delves into a haunting narrative centered around a mother’s relentless fight to safeguard her children amidst dire conditions.
In Hold Your Breath, Paulson portrays Margaret, a mourning mother who becomes increasingly convinced that a malevolent force is threatening her family. The film’s trailer teases a harrowing tale of Margaret’s struggle to shield her daughter as the relentless Dust Bowl conditions exacerbate her fears and challenges.
The film also features performances by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Annaleigh Ashford, Amiah Miller, and Bill Heck. Co-directed and co-written by Will Joines and Karrie Crouse, known for their work on “Westworld,” Hold Your Breath promises a compelling and intense viewing experience.
Paulson, who also serves as an executive producer on the project, shared her insights with People Magazine, emphasizing the emotional core of the film. “At its heart, this is a story about a mother’s desperation to protect her children,” Paulson explained. “The film explores themes of control and madness, particularly as Margaret faces mounting challenges. As she struggles with the encroaching dust and dwindling resources, her desperation and fear spiral, pushing her towards the brink of madness.”
Originally announced in 2022 under the title Dust, Hold Your Breath will premiere exclusively on Hulu on October 3, courtesy of Searchlight Pictures.
