With just hours before the first U.S. Presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, the trailer for director Ali Abbasi’s highly anticipated film, The Apprentice, has been unveiled. Set in 1970s New York, the film chronicles the early career of aspiring real estate mogul Donald J. Trump, portrayed by Sebastian Stan, and his mentorship under the influential political fixer Roy Cohn, played by Jeremy Strong. The film explores Trump’s rise through deception, intimidation, and media manipulation, depicting his transformation into a powerful figure in American real estate.
The Apprentice premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and has since faced legal threats from the Trump campaign, aimed at halting its release. Producer Dan Bekerman commented on the threats, highlighting the unique challenges faced by the film and its distributors, but affirmed their commitment to the film’s artistic and responsible integrity.
The film promises a compelling narrative of ambition and power, with standout performances from Stan and Strong. Rising star Maria Bakalova also features as Ivana Trump. The Apprentice is scheduled to hit cinemas on October 10, positioning itself as a significant cinematic event of 2024.
