The creative team behind popular films like Freaky, Happy Death Day, and Werewolves Within has teamed up for a new slasher rom-com, Heart Eyes, which is scheduled to hit theaters on February 7, 2025.
Directed by Josh Ruben, known for his work on Werewolves Within and Scare Me, this Valentine’s Day-themed horror film stars Mason Gooding (Scream) and Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer).
Heart Eyes follows a chilling premise: when the Heart Eyes Killer begins his spree in Seattle, two co-workers working late on Valentine’s Day are mistakenly identified as a couple by the killer, forcing them to navigate the most romantic night of the year while evading danger.
The film also features notable actors Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Chucky) and Jordana Brewster (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning).
Written by a talented trio—Phillip Murphy (The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard), Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky), and Michael Kennedy (Freaky)—the screenplay promises to deliver a unique blend of thrills and laughs.
Ruben expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies. I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”
Heart Eyes is produced by Christopher Landon alongside Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks from Divide/Conquer, known for their work on M3gan and Totally Killer. Gary Barber and Chris Stone from Spyglass will serve as executive producers alongside Murphy.
