The upcoming drama Hazard, featuring Sosie Bacon and Alex Roe, is set to be released in theaters on January 10, 2025, following its acquisition by Emphatic Pictures and RBL Films. Directed and written by Eddie Mensore, the film is poised to shed light on the ongoing opioid crisis in an Appalachian mining town.
Hazard tells the story of Will (Roe), a reluctant drug dealer faced with the dilemma of saving his family, plagued by addiction, while struggling to make a living amidst his own challenges. In the film’s trailer, he tells his partner Sara (Bacon), “Leave Hazard forever with me,” expressing his disdain for the mining life. Sara, concerned about their financial stability, asks, “You really got 10,000 saved?”
Mensore, who also produced the film alongside Roe and Bacon, will premiere Hazard on October 18 at the 2024 Woodstock Film Festival. The soundtrack will be released by sonaBLAST! Records, under the guidance of executive producer Gill Holland.
Sosie Bacon gained widespread recognition for her role in the horror film Smile, released by Paramount Pictures in September 2022. The daughter of actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, she has also appeared in popular television series such as Scream, 13 Reasons Why, Narcos: Mexico, Mare of Easttown, and As We See It.
Alex Roe is known for his performances in the 2017 horror film Rings and the 2018 romantic drama Forever My Girl, which featured Jessica Rothe. His television credits include portraying Pat Garrett in the MGM+ series Billy the Kid and starring in the Freeform series Siren.
Mensore previously directed the 2019 feature Mine 9, which highlighted the dangers faced by a team of trapped miners in Appalachia, further showcasing his commitment to stories that delve into the region’s struggles.
