Director Justin Dyck, known for his 2020 horror hit Anything for Jackson, is set to embark on a new chilling project titled The Casket Girls. Gabrielle Union has been cast in the lead role for this anticipated horror feature.
Written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, renowned for Night at the Museum, the screenplay has undergone revisions by Keith Cooper and Dyck himself. The film draws inspiration from the historical narrative of the Casket Girls of New Orleans, a group of young women sent from France in the early 1700s to marry French colonists. Their arrival coincided with a rise in local murders, leading to accusations of demonic ties and vampirism. As a result, these women were confined to the attic of the Ursuline Convent, which remains a landmark in the city.
Set against the backdrop of New Orleans’ storied French Quarter—often associated with vampire lore—The Casket Girls promises a compelling blend of history and horror. In the film, Union will portray Detective Shay Williams, who, along with her partner, becomes trapped inside the Ursuline Convent with a group of tourists when the Casket Girls escape their attic prison for the first time in over 300 years.
Produced by QC Entertainment’s Sean McKittrick and Raymond Mansfield, the film will also feature Union as an executive producer alongside QC’s Edward H. Hamm Jr. Production is slated to begin on October 15 in Victoria, BC, in partnership with Lighthouse Pictures, which will have Jameson Parker as an executive producer. U.S. casting will be managed by Atomic Honey, with Kris and Kara Casting handling Canadian casting.
