Hulu has unveiled the official trailer for its highly anticipated supernatural horror film, Mr. Crocket, a nostalgic yet chilling nod to 1990s children’s programming. The trailer opens with a heartwarming scene of a mother showcasing her affection for her young son by introducing him to what appears to be a charming children’s variety show. However, the cozy atmosphere quickly turns sinister as Mr. Crocket, the show’s host, emerges from the television screen to abduct the child, leaving a trail of chaos in his wake.
Mr. Crocket is scheduled to premiere on Hulu on October 11, 2024, following its world premiere at Fantastic Fest next week. The film is produced by David Brooks, Arbi Pedrossian, Jenna Cavelle, and Carl Reid under WorthenBrooks’ first-look horror slate with Hulu Originals, with the story developed by WorthenBrooks.
The film’s synopsis reveals a dark tale: “In 1993, a mysterious children’s show host, Mr. Crocket, magically emerges from television sets to kidnap young children, brutally slaying their parents in the process. After Mr. Crocket snatches her son, one determined mother embarks on a perilous quest to track down the demonic entertainer and rescue her boy.”
Directed by Brandon Espy in his feature-length debut, Mr. Crocket is co-written by Espy and Carl Reid. The film is based on a 2022 short of the same name, also penned and directed by Espy for Hulu’s Bite Size Halloween. Co-producers include Sean King O’Grady, Josh Feldman, and Jesse Ford, with Miles Alva serving as executive producer.
The cast features notable talents such as Jerrika Hinton (Hunters) and Elvis Nolasco (Godfather of Harlem), alongside Ayden Gavin, Kristolyn Lloyd, and Alex Akpobome. Mr. Crocket will serve as the closing film for Fantastic Fest, which runs from September 19 to 29 in Austin, Texas. The festival lineup includes 28 world premieres, 23 international and North American premieres, and 15 U.S. premieres, showcasing films like Halle Berry’s suspense thriller Never Let Go and the world premiere of The Rule of Jenny Pen, along with Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3.
Mr. Crocket will have its world premiere on September 29 at Fantastic Fest before becoming available for streaming on Hulu starting October 11. Fans can catch a glimpse of the horror ahead by watching the trailer now.
