XYZ Films Unveils Controversial Trailer for ‘Krazy House’

by Barbara

XYZ Films has released a new trailer for Krazy House, an action-horror comedy that received harsh criticism from our own Chris Bumbray during its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

Blending elements of a ’90s sitcom with gory humor, the Krazy House trailer embraces its provocative themes. The film stars Nick Frost as Bernie, a devout homemaker who uncovers that the Russian workers in his home are actually criminals in pursuit of hidden treasure. To protect his wife and his sitcom-style family, Bernie must confront his fears and unleash his inner strength. Directed and written by Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil, the film features a cast including Alicia Silverstone, Kevin Connolly, Gaite Jansen, and Walt Klink.

While Krazy House seems aimed at a niche audience that might appreciate its outrageous humor, it fell flat for Bumbray. He remarked, “Everything about this film is a disaster right from the start. The pseudo-sitcom gimmick is unfunny and has been executed better in the classic viral video Too Many Cooks.” He noted that although Frost tries his best, the material limits his performance. For much of the film, Frost’s character remains stuck in a sitcom format, only to shed the comedic facade for a more intense role in the final moments. By then, however, the film had descended into what Bumbray described as a “hopeless satire” lacking any real humor.

Bumbray also criticized the wasted potential of the talented cast, stating that Alicia Silverstone deserves far more than her role as Frost’s endlessly exasperated wife. He mentioned Kevin Connolly’s late cameo as Jesus Christ, which, while a surprising turn, could not redeem the film’s overall lack of substance. “It’s all just crass exploitation without any entertainment value,” he concluded, adding that the screening he attended prompted several walkouts.
