In Spider-Man: Homecoming, it was revealed that Tony Stark decided to sell Avengers Tower, sparking years of speculation about its new owner. Rumors circulated, naming potential buyers ranging from Kingpin to variants of Kang the Conqueror, and even the Fantastic Four. However, Marvel Studios has kept the identity under wraps, avoiding any appearances of the iconic structure in recent New York City shots.
Recently, during promotional activities for Deadpool & Wolverine, Kevin Feige confirmed that answers regarding the tower’s fate are forthcoming. The newly released Thunderbolts trailer may have finally shed light on this longstanding mystery. A scene featuring the team confronting Valentina Allegra de Fontaine appears to unfold in the former Avengers Tower, showcasing a bar reminiscent of the one used by Tony Stark during his encounter with Loki in The Avengers (2012).
Despite some minor modifications, the striking similarities suggest intentionality, especially if the Thunderbolts designation hints at “New Avengers” or “Dark Avengers.” The iconic New York skyline and window views further support this theory. In the comics, Norman Osborn famously unveiled his Dark Avengers, and while the film’s protagonists aren’t outright villains, a similar reveal at the conclusion of Thunderbolts seems plausible.
Earlier speculations suggested that Ironheart might reveal that Mephisto now owns the tower due to an unexpected interest in technology, though this claim remains unverified. The latest trailer might indeed point toward the new owner of Avengers Tower.
The Thunderbolts film, featuring a diverse cast including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, is directed by Jake Schreier and set for theatrical release on May 5, 2025.
