Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated vampire film from “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler is titled Sinners. This project stars Michael B. Jordan, known for his role as Killmonger in the Marvel franchise.
While a brief teaser for the film has been released, it does not include any actual footage. A full trailer is expected to debut tomorrow. According to the logline, Jordan will portray twin brothers who, in an attempt to escape their troubled pasts, return to their hometown only to confront a more sinister force awaiting their arrival.
The film has generated significant buzz, initially shrouded in secrecy. It was previously reported that studio executives had to visit the Beverly Hills offices of WME, the agency representing Coogler and Jordan, just to view the script. Since then, more details about the project have emerged.
Described as a “genre feature” with a historical context, Sinners is set in the Jim Crow-era South and is expected to blend themes of vampirism with Southern supernatural traditions.
Hailee Steinfeld, known for her roles in “Hawkeye” and “Edge of Seventeen,” has recently joined the cast in an undisclosed role, alongside previously announced actors Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O’Connell. Mosaku is rumored to portray Jordan’s love interest, while O’Connell is believed to play a “racist antagonist.”
Coogler not only directs but also penned the script and serves as the lead producer, alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian. Following his successful work on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where Jordan made a notable cameo, Coogler is also reportedly developing a third installment of the Black Panther series and may direct an upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars film.
In addition to these projects, Coogler is set to lead a reboot of The X-Files for Disney-owned 20th Century Studios, indicating a busy few years ahead for the acclaimed filmmaker.
