Director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia is set to unveil the highly anticipated sequel, The Platform 2, on Netflix on October 4. The streaming service released an official trailer today, showcasing the film’s intriguing premise.
In this sequel, a mysterious figure has established a new law within the confines of The Platform, raising the question: can justice truly be upheld in such a hellish environment, and who will enforce it? The film stars Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian.
The original The Platform explores a chilling vertical prison system where inmates are assigned to levels, forced to ration food from a platform that descends between floors. Those on higher levels enjoy better meals than those below, prompting one man to seek change for equitable distribution.
Rafael praised the original film during its TIFF screening, awarding it 4.5 stars and noting its ability to leverage its isolated setting and limited cast to deliver a compelling narrative. He described it as a “funny, heartfelt, and thought-provoking sci-fi thriller,” likening it to Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer but with superior culinary elements. Additionally, the film secured a spot on Daniel Kurland’s list of the Best International Horror Films of 2020.
