Taiwanese actress Joe Chen, renowned for her roles in idol dramas, recently celebrated her wedding with an array of beloved co-stars and family members by her side. Notable among the attendees was actor Ming Dao, who starred as Chen’s romantic interest in the popular 2005 series The Prince Who Turns Into A Frog. Ming Dao took on the role of groomsman for the occasion.
Ming Dao, 44, made the event a family affair, with his four-year-old son serving as a flower boy and his one-year-old daughter making a charming appearance during the festivities. The little girl was peacefully asleep in her father’s arms as he serenaded the couple with Wakin Chau’s classic hit, “I Am Gonna Marry You Tomorrow.”
The actor shared his heartfelt wedding experiences on social media platforms Weibo and Instagram. In a touching post, he captioned a photo of his son walking alongside the newlyweds: “You walked towards your happiness on this day, looking ravishing and beautiful, while I walked towards you with my son with blessings in every step. I hope you’ll be happy and blissful every day.”
In another candid moment shared on Weibo, Ming Dao was seen sitting on stage, feeding his baby daughter while Chen mingled with guests. He humorously noted, “Joe, while you’re busy toasting guests at your wedding, I’m busy feeding my baby milk.” Chen responded affectionately in the comments, saying, “Please go ahead and feed your baby, you dutiful father. I don’t need anyone to drink on my behalf; I can handle my alcohol.”
Other familiar faces at the wedding included celebrity couples Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu, and Alex Tien and Yvonne Lim, who were also there to celebrate a decade of marriage.
Another groomsman, Joseph Cheng, who collaborated with Chen on the film The Queens in 2015, shared a selfie from the wedding, marking his first experience as a groomsman.
Chen’s bridal party featured members from her former girl group, 7 Flowers, adding a nostalgic touch to the celebration. On September 22, she shared multiple photos of the wedding party on Weibo, expressing her gratitude: “Old friends are the best. Thank you to all of my groomsmen and bridesmaids; I love you all.”
The bride radiated joy as she finally wore her own wedding gown, having previously donned wedding dresses numerous times for her acting roles. She shared her excitement in a post featuring pictures from her wedding shoot, stating, “I’ve joked that I’ve worn wedding dresses 200 times on-screen, but it’s time for me to finally wear my very own.”
Throughout the day, Chen showcased several stunning outfits, including a strapless white gown for her march-in and a pink gown adorned with a black ribbon. For the traditional tea ceremony, she donned a beautiful xiuhe, a traditional Chinese wedding dress, where she and her husband honored their families by serving tea.
In a poignant moment the day after the wedding, Chen reflected on her emotions, writing, “I thought I wouldn’t cry, but the moment I knelt to serve tea to my parents, my tears just fell before I could even speak. Emotions and tears don’t listen to reason; they listen to your heart. Thank you, mum and dad.”
Joe Chen and her husband met during the second season of the Chinese dating reality show Meeting Mr. Right in 2019. Their love story took a significant turn when he proposed to her on the Langkawi Sky Bridge, making the island a cherished location for the couple.
