Pixar has announced premiere dates for its upcoming Disney+ series, “Dream Productions” and “Win or Lose,” as the studio expands its long-form offerings. With the launch of Disney+, Pixar has aimed to leverage its beloved brand by introducing a variety of series, including “Monsters at Work” and short shows like “Dug Days” and “Cars on the Road.”
“Dream Productions,” a spin-off of the acclaimed film “Inside Out,” is set to premiere all four episodes on December 11, 2024. The series will explore the inner workings of Riley’s dreams, taking place between the events of “Inside Out” and its upcoming sequel. The original cast, including Amy Poehler, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, and Phyllis Smith, will reprise their roles, while new voices such as Paula Pell and Maya Rudolph will join the ensemble.
“Win or Lose,” Pixar’s first original animated series, will debut on February 19, 2025, with episodes released weekly. This series centers on a little league baseball team, featuring a different character’s perspective in each of its eight episodes. Will Forte leads the cast as Coach Dan, alongside Rosa Salazar and Izaac Wang.
The timing of “Dream Productions” is strategic, aiming to attract family audiences during the holiday season. In contrast, the decision to roll out “Win or Lose” weekly indicates Disney’s commitment to the series, especially following the cancellation of an unannounced follow-up in 2023.
Despite Pixar’s recent success, including “Inside Out 2,” which grossed $1.6 billion worldwide, it ongoing challenges for its employees, including overtime demands and lack of bonuses. These developments highlight ongoing concerns about how Disney manages its relationship with Pixar, even as new projects continue to emerge.
