Shudder has released the trailer for its latest horror film, Daddy’s Head, a chilling narrative that unfolds after the tragic death of a young boy’s father.
In this dark tale, the boy finds himself isolated in a vast country estate with his newly widowed stepmother. Struggling to adapt to her new role, the stepmother becomes increasingly distant, jeopardizing their fragile relationship. As tensions rise, the boy begins to hear unsettling sounds echoing through the mansion, soon discovering a grotesque creature resembling his deceased father. Despite his attempts to alert his stepmother, his warnings are dismissed as the fanciful fears of a grieving child, allowing the sinister presence to tighten its grip on their unraveling lives.
Daddy’s Head marks the second feature film from Benjamin Barfoot, who not only wrote and directed the film but also composed its soundtrack. A self-taught filmmaker from Torbay, Devon, Barfoot began his career with animated films in childhood and quickly transitioned to live-action. He gained recognition in London, where he was nominated for a Broadcast Young Talent Award with his short animated film. His diverse experience includes creating film trailers, documentaries for the BBC, and experimenting with both dark shorts and improvised comedies.
Barfoot’s directorial debut, Double Date, released in 2017, earned him a nomination for Best Debut Director at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) and won Best International Feature at the Strasbourg Film Festival. His collaboration with the band Goat on the soundtrack for Double Date further inspired his journey into music production while he developed original screenplays.
Daddy’s Head is set to premiere on October 11th, following its screenings at Fantastic Fest, and promises to deliver a compelling and eerie cinematic experience.
