“The Life of Chuck” Secures Distribution Deal with Neon

by Barbara

“The Life of Chuck” has entered into a distribution agreement with Neon after winning the prestigious People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Historically, this audience prize has been a reliable indicator of potential Oscar success, though it remains uncertain if this will hold true for the film this year. Nevertheless, “The Life of Chuck” has garnered largely positive reviews, positioning it for a summer 2025 release and an awards campaign in the fall. Details of the deal are still being finalized, and a spokesperson for Neon declined to comment on the terms.

The film, adapted from Stephen King’s 2020 novella, features Tom Hiddleston and is directed by Mike Flanagan. It presents a “life-affirming” narrative centered on an ordinary man named Charles Krantz. The story unfolds in three distinct chapters, presented in reverse chronological order, against the backdrop of a world that appears to be gradually deteriorating. The cast also includes Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay, with comparisons being drawn to King’s earlier adaptations like “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Stand By Me,” rather than his horror works such as “It” or “Pet Sematary.”

A notable aspect of the film is an extended dance sequence featuring Hiddleston, who portrays the enigmatic accountant Chuck. To prepare, Hiddleston underwent a six-week crash course in various dance styles, including jazz, swing, polka, samba, cha-cha, quickstep, and even the moonwalk. “I had to do all of these technical dances, none of which I have any training in,” Hiddleston explained. He shared that while some dances came more naturally than others, he particularly enjoyed jazz and swing. However, he found the bossa nova challenging, stating it took time for him to adapt his hips to the movements, while describing polka as akin to a “100-meter sprint.”
