GKids has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming anime film, “Ghost Cat Anzu,” which made its debut at the prestigious 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
The narrative centers around 11-year-old Karin, who finds herself abandoned by her father at her grandfather’s home, situated in a tranquil town in the Japanese countryside. Her grandfather, a monk, enlists the help of Anzu, a whimsical and capricious ghost cat, to look after her. The interaction between these two strong characters sets the stage for a dynamic and intriguing relationship, igniting sparks from their very first encounter.
Originally titled “化け猫あんずちゃん” in Japanese, “Ghost Cat Anzu” is co-directed by renowned Japanese filmmakers Yôko Kuno, known for her work as a character designer and storyboard artist on the acclaimed series “Land of the Lustrous,” and Nobuhiro Yamashita, celebrated for directing films such as “Hazy Life,” “Linda Linda Linda,” and “My Uncle.”
The screenplay is penned by Shinji Imaoka, based on the manga created by Takashi Imashiro. The film is produced by Shin-ei Animation in Japan and Miyu Productions in France.
Following its premiere at Cannes, “Ghost Cat Anzu” first opened in Japan in July. GKids is set to release the film in select theaters on November 15, 2024.
With an enchanting premise centered around a ghost cat, the anticipation is building. After the captivating teaser trailer, audiences can look forward to joining Karin and Anzu on their adventure this fall.
