Freestyle Digital Media has unveiled the official trailer for Stealing Jokes, a new comedy film that explores the lengths to which stand-up comics will go for revenge. Written and directed by comedian Mike Young, who hails from Detroit, the film was shot in his hometown. Its release coincides with Young’s upcoming Rocket Comedy tour, set to launch this month, before becoming available on video-on-demand (VOD) in November.
Stealing Jokes follows comedian Jake Burman and his friends as they embark on a comedy tour. However, after being cheated out of their earnings on the first night, the group decides to rob the venue. This leads to a comedic adventure reminiscent of Ocean’s Eleven, plunging them into the underbelly of the comedy world.
“I’ve always wanted to make a film about comedians getting their due,” Young explained. “After years of opening for Bob Saget and witnessing the global impact of stand-up comedy, I thought what better way to tell the story than through an underdog tale about stand-up comics.”
The film features a cast of comedians, including Jeff Dye, Dustin Ybarra, Ha Ha Davis, and Luke Null, among others, some of whom may be familiar to audiences.
Stealing Jokes is produced by Jeremy Alter and Michael Manasseri and marks Young’s return to indie filmmaking, following his previous works My Man is a Loser and A Stand Up Guy.
The film’s release is strategically timed with the start of Young’s Rocket Comedy tour, which kicks off in Phoenix on October 11th and will conclude in Detroit. Freestyle Digital Media is set to release Stealing Jokes directly to VOD starting November 1, 2024.
For those who appreciate a blend of comedy and heist, Stealing Jokes promises to deliver laughs and a unique perspective on the challenges faced by comedians.
