Talia Ryder, known for her roles in Dumb Money and Never Rarely Sometimes Always, is set to star alongside Marc Maron in the upcoming comedy film In Memoriam, directed by Rob Burnett.
Burnett, acclaimed for his work on The Fundamentals of Caring, wrote the script and will direct the film for Invention Studios, known for producing Thelma.
In Memoriam will commence filming in Los Angeles on Monday. The story centers on a veteran Hollywood actor, portrayed by Maron, who becomes fixated on securing a spot in the Oscars’ “In Memoriam” montage after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. This obsession leads him on a poignant journey of self-discovery, exploring themes of ego, humility, and legacy.
Ryder’s impressive filmography includes Little Death (2024), The American (2023), The Sweet East (2023), Dumb Money (2023), Do Revenge (2022), Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between (2022), and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story (2021). She is also set to appear in Ethan Coen’s Honey Don’t! for Focus Features.
Rob Burnett’s previous work includes The Fundamentals of Caring, which starred Paul Rudd, Craig Roberts, and Selena Gomez, and premiered at Sundance before being acquired by Netflix. Burnett is well-known for his long tenure as head writer and executive producer of The Late Show With David Letterman, and he previously served as president of Letterman’s production company, Worldwide Pants.
The film is being produced by Nicholas Weinstock and Divya D’Souza of Invention Studios, alongside Maron, Burnett, and David Martin from Avalon. Invention recently produced the octogenarian action comedy Thelma, starring June Squibb, which premiered at Sundance and was released by Magnolia Pictures in June.
Ryder is represented by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and McKuin Frankel Whitehead LLP.
