The acclaimed horror-comedy “Ready or Not” is set to return with a highly anticipated sequel, bringing back lead actress Samara Weaving. Known for her roles in Netflix’s “The Babysitter” and the 2022 installment of “Scream,” Weaving continues to solidify her status in the genre.
Production company Radio Silence, celebrated for its contributions to the horror landscape, is once again collaborating with Searchlight Pictures to bring the fan-favorite film back to life. The creative team behind the original, including Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez, and Chad Villella, are set to reprise their roles in the project, which centers around a deadly twist on a children’s game.
The original “Ready or Not,” released in 2019, was a breakout success. Written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy and directed by Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett, the film follows a young bride who uncovers a sinister family tradition at her wedding reception. The game-night ritual transforms into a lethal version of Hide and Seek, all stemming from a Faustian deal made by her in-laws.
Despite its modest budget of $6 million, the film garnered impressive box office returns, earning $28 million domestically. This unexpected success made it Searchlight’s top release of 2019, significantly outperforming initial projections of $8–12 million. Critics lauded the film for its social commentary and innovative storyline.
As for the sequel, Busick and Murphy are confirmed to return as writers, though specific plot details remain under wraps. Returning producers include Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt, with Villella and Tara Farney serving as executive producers. On the Searchlight side, executives Cornelia Burleigh and Richard Ruiz, Vice President of Production, will oversee the project, reporting to co-heads of production and development DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.
With the creative team back in action, fans can expect another thrilling installment that blends horror and humor in a unique narrative.
