David Corenswet Joins Cast of Upcoming Football Drama ‘Mr. Irrelevant’

by Barbara

David Corenswet, fresh off his casting as Superman in the upcoming DC Studios film, is making another significant career move. Corenswet will star in Mr. Irrelevant, a new Skydance Sports film centered on John Tuggle, the last pick of the 1983 NFL Draft. The film is directed by Jonathan Levine, with Emmy-nominated writer Nick Santora penning the script.

Mr. Irrelevant will follow the inspiring true story of Tuggle, who made an unexpected impact on the New York Giants despite the low expectations that come with being the final draft pick, a title often referred to as “Mr. Irrelevant.” Levine will also produce the film alongside Gillian Bohrer for Megamix, with Santora producing under his banner, Blackjack Films.

The title “Mr. Irrelevant” originated in 1976 with the drafting of Paul Salata, a USC receiver, which sparked the tradition of “Irrelevant Week” celebrating the last pick of the NFL Draft. While most players picked last in the draft do not go on to significant success, Tuggle’s story stands out as a powerful example of perseverance and triumph.

Corenswet’s role in Mr. Irrelevant comes on the heels of his highly anticipated performance as Superman, in which he beat out actors like Nicholas Hoult for the role of Clark Kent. Corenswet will star alongside Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan in the James Gunn-directed Superman film. Prior to this, he appeared in A24’s horror film Pearl and had a key role in the summer blockbuster Twisters.
