The new film “Blitz,” starring Saoirse Ronan, Elliot Heffernan, Harris Dickinson, and others, and written and directed by Steve McQueen, has released a poster.
The story takes place during the Blitz of World War II. It is about a group of people in London as the city is under aerial bombardment. Nine-year-old George is separated from his family during the chaos of war. He is determined to return to his home in East London and reunite with his mother Rita and grandfather Gerald. George embarks on an adventure but finds himself in great danger. Meanwhile, the anxious Rita is searching for her missing son and eventually sends him to a safe rural area in Britain for refuge.
McQueen’s company Lammas Park, in collaboration with Working Title Films and New Regency, produces the film. This is also his collaboration with New Regency again after “12 Years a Slave” and “Widows.”
The film will have a limited release in North America on November 1 and will be available on Apple TV+ on November 22.
Saoirse Ronan also has another new film this year, “Escape.” It will be released in North America on October 4. Sony Pictures Classics and Stage 6 Films are collaborating on the distribution. Directed by Nora Fingscheidt (“The Unforgivable”), it also stars Paapa Essiedu (“I May Destroy You,” “Gangs of London”) and Stephen Dillane (“Game of Thrones”). Ronan, Jack Lowden, and Dominic Norris produce through their production company Arcade Pictures. It was released in the UK on September 27.
Adapted from Amy Liptrot’s memoir, Liptrot also wrote the film’s script with Fingscheidt. The story follows Rona, who has just come out of a rehabilitation center. After more than a decade away, she returns to the Orkney Islands in Scotland and to the sheep farm of her childhood, once again experiencing the beauty of nature and the preciousness of tranquility.
