The Honest Liar, an action-comedy film, has a star-studded cast, with Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), Grammy-winning Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), and Golden Globe nominee Edgar Ramirez (Emilia Perez) set to headline. The film is being introduced to buyers at the American Film Market (AFM) this week by Altitude, with CAA Media Finance handling domestic distribution.
Directed by Wayne Kramer (The Cooler), The Honest Liar follows Jackson’s character, Nick DeFranco, an award-winning actor who finds himself facing prison time after being duped in an undercover sting. Criticizing the police for their poor acting, DeFranco catches the attention of a Police Captain, who offers him a deal: probation in exchange for teaching a team of rookie cops how to convincingly portray criminals. As DeFranco reluctantly agrees to the role, he becomes entangled with a rookie officer, played by Andra Day, leading him deeper into the world of undercover operations—and into perilous situations that threaten to compromise both their covers.
The film was produced by veteran Hollywood producers Dan Grodnik (Fast Charlie) and Jeffrey Reisner, under their new banner, Golden Eagle Movie Studios. Executive producers are Gail Thackray and Tracy Beam.
Grodnik praised the film’s premise, stating, “Wayne Kramer’s forte is creating original stories around people we care about. The Honest Liar grabbed me from the first page, drew me in emotionally, and never took its foot off the gas. Samuel L. Jackson’s portrayal of Nick will make this a must-see movie.”
