The Incredibles 3 has received a significant update regarding its production. The beloved animated franchise was confirmed at D23 in August, and fans have been eagerly awaiting news ever since. The third installment will see the return of director Brad Bird, who is expected to bring back the iconic cast including Craig T. Nelson as Mr. Incredible, Holly Hunter as Elastigirl, and Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone. There is also speculation about potential new actors for the younger characters like Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack.
At Disney’s D23 Brazil event, Pixar Vice President Jonas Rivera made a surprising announcement. He revealed that not only is the movie in development, but the screenwriters are hard at work on the script. Rivera expressed his excitement, stating, “They’re back! Jack-Jack is back, everybody is back in an all-new adventure – more on this in the future. We are just now starting to write the script and it is so cool. I’m dying, I want to show you more, but we’ll do that later. I know, I know, but you gotta have more to look forward to.” This announcement has generated a lot of buzz among fans, who are eager to see what new adventures the Parr family will embark on.
The fact that the script is currently being written does not necessarily determine when the movie will be released. However, it does provide some hints. Looking at the timeline of The Incredibles 2, director Brad Bird began working on the script in April 2015, and the movie was released on June 15, 2018. If a similar pace is set for Incredibles 3, it could mean a release in late 2027 or early 2028. The holiday season in 2027 might be a preferable release window, but Pixar’s history shows a preference for June releases to capture the summer blockbuster audience. For example, The Incredibles was released in November 2004 and grossed $632 million worldwide, while The Incredibles 2 came out in June 2018 and earned a whopping $1.2 billion.
Pixar currently does not have any movies scheduled for 2027 or 2028. Their current schedule includes Elio on June 13, 2025, Hoppers on March 6, 2026, and Toy Story 5 on June 19, 2026. This leaves a significant gap for the superhero franchise, giving Bird ample time to ensure that the movie is perfect. After Pixar’s recent string of less successful films, including Lightyear’s disappointing $226 million box office take, there is no need to rush another movie in a beloved franchise. The start of writing is excellent news, but it’s important for viewers to be patient and wait for the production to finish. While it will be amazing to see Incredibles 3, it’s crucial not to rush the creative process and let the filmmakers take the time they need to deliver a truly outstanding movie.
