Despite starring in Joker: Folie à Deux, Tim Dillon is highly critical of the film. The comedian, who played a security guard at Arkham Asylum, believes the Todd Phillips sequel over-corrected in response to the controversy of the first Joker movie. Appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience, Dillon called it “the worst film ever made.” He criticized the lack of plot and said people on set knew it was “going to bomb.”
Dillon’s comments reflect a broader sentiment among fans of the original Joker film. The first entry ended with Arthur Fleck fully embracing his Joker persona, while Joker: Folie à Deux delves deeper into Arthur’s psychology and his romance with Harleen Quinzel. Dillon seems to dislike this change in direction, especially the musical aspect.
His perspective is not without merit, as director Todd Phillips has indicated that Arthur is meant to be sympathized with but not idolized. However, Dillon’s criticism also echoes the disappointment of some fans who wanted more of Arthur as Joker. On the other hand, some, like Quentin Tarantino, enjoyed the film.
As for Dillon’s claim that those on set knew it would flop, it’s possible some didn’t believe in the project. Only time will tell how Joker: Folie à Deux will be remembered, as a cult classic or a forgotten flop.
