Venom: The Last Dance continues to dominate while new movies vie for top spots. The box office battle shows the changing landscape.
Venom: The Last Dance remains on top at the box office for its third weekend. It debuted at No. 1 and held its position in the second weekend, beating out Robert Zemeckis’ Here starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. In its third weekend, it competes with smaller releases, notably A24’s Heretic led by Hugh Grant and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever starring Judy Greer and Pete Holmes.
As of Sunday morning, Venom: The Last Dance is projected to earn $16.2 million in its third weekend, crossing the $100 million and $110 million domestic milestones. The movie, with a $120 million budget, is the 16th release of the year to reach this milestone and the fifth to debut with three consecutive weekends at No. 1.
The battle for the No. 2 spot is between Heretic and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, both projected to earn over $11 million in their opening weekends. The rest of the top five includes The Wild Robot at No. 4 and Smile 2 at No. 5. Other movies on the chart have shifted positions, with Conclave and Here dropping.
This strong third weekend for Venom: The Last Dance comes after a relatively weak debut. However, its drops in subsequent weekends are smaller than previous installments. While it seems unlikely to be the highest-grossing Venom movie, it has a chance to become the second highest-grossing in the franchise.
Although Venom 3 and the new releases may have solid grosses for now, they will likely be pushed off the chart as the holiday movie season heats up. Movies like Red One, Wicked, Gladiator II, and Moana 2 are expected to dominate in the coming weeks.
