Fede Álvarez praises the new Nosferatu remake as his favorite horror movie of 2024. The endorsement could boost the film’s success.
The latest Nosferatu remake by Robert Eggers has received high praise even before its December 25 release. Starring Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, and Lily-Rose Depp, it is already being considered highly regarded compared to previous remakes. Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez took to Twitter to proclaim it as his “favorite horror movie of the year”, choosing it over his own recent release.
Álvarez’s endorsement is significant as his movie, Alien: Romulus, also received positive reviews and did well at the box office. If he believes Nosferatu is better, it could be a sign of the remake’s potential success. So far, the Nosferatu reviews have been unanimously positive, with praise for its costuming, characters, and cinematography. While there is no Rotten Tomatoes score yet, the social reactions are rave.
Álvarez’s praise is unexpected as his own movie earned extreme praise. It could be his humility or an honest opinion. If so, Nosferatu could have a successful box office run, especially with the holiday season offering an opportunity and the positive response drawing a larger audience.
