Iconic ‘Back to the Future’ Item Sells for $100K at Auction

by Barbara Miller

An iconic item from the beloved Back to the Future franchise has fetched nearly $100,000 at an auction. The franchise, which began in 1985 with the hit movie directed by Robert Zemeckis, starred Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox as Doc Brown and Marty McFly respectively.

The trilogy grossed a significant amount worldwide, with no further sequels since. The item sold was Marty’s futuristic inflatable jacket from Back to the Future Part II, used onscreen by Fox. It was restored and screen-matched to a particular scene.

Propstore announced its sale for £75,000, approximately $95,000 USD. The high price paid for this costume piece reflects the franchise’s enduring popularity. Despite no new movies in 34 years, it’s a pop culture staple, inspiring works like Rick and Morty and having a successful stage musical adaptation.
