After the box office disappointment of the first movie, which later found success on streaming, Kevin Costner has given a glimmer of hope for Horizon: An American Saga’s future. The planned four-part Western epic saga had a rough start, with Chapter 1 receiving mixed reviews and a modest box office haul. Chapter 2’s release was delayed indefinitely, and production on Chapter 3 halted due to funding issues.
At a recent panel, Costner revealed he’s been meeting with unnamed billionaires to seek funding for the remaining installments. While this is an encouraging sign, the path ahead remains challenging. Chapter 2 still lacks a release date, and its recent Venice Film Festival showing brought underwhelming reviews.
Costner has much negotiating to do. Without Chapter 2’s box office performance to gauge, financiers may be hesitant to invest. Also, he’ll need partners who trust him and allow creative control. Our take is that Costner could consider mending ties with Taylor Sheridan for potential funding assistance.
