Kathryn Hahn Teases Agatha Harkness’ Future in the MCU Amid Uncertainty

by Barbara Miller

Kathryn Hahn’s portrayal of Agatha Harkness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been widely praised, with her character first gaining attention in WandaVision before leading her own spinoff series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos. However, the conclusion of Agatha All Along left her character in an intriguing position—Agatha died, only to return as a ghost, joining forces with Joe Locke’s Billy Maximoff to pursue the Scarlet Witch’s other son, Tommy.

In a recent interview, Hahn shared her thoughts on Agatha’s future within the MCU. While the actress expressed her love for playing the character and working alongside Locke, she also hinted that Agatha All Along could serve as a potential farewell for Agatha Harkness, should Marvel Studios decide not to bring the character back in future projects.

“Even though obviously now Billy/Wiccan is not her son, there is some sort of hope for her that she’s able to maybe do for him what she couldn’t do for Nicky,” Hahn reflected. “I think they do make a great team. Of course, I love this part and I love Joe Locke madly, and we’ll see what the future holds. In my mind, this was a beautiful and satisfying way to say goodbye to this incredible character I had to play.”

Uncertainty Around Agatha’s Return

Despite Hahn’s sentimentality, her comments reveal uncertainty regarding Agatha’s return to the MCU. The actress hasn’t been informed of any potential reprisal of the role, and she seems to view Agatha All Along as a fitting conclusion for the character. However, this doesn’t necessarily signal an end for Agatha. The final scenes of the series, featuring Agatha and Billy embarking on a new adventure, leave room for the character’s potential return.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, previously called Agatha All Along a major success, and with the door left open for more storylines involving Agatha and Billy, many fans and industry insiders believe her return is likely, even if another season of her spinoff series is not immediately on the horizon.

Hahn’s Attachment to the Role

During the interview, Hahn also reflected on how well Agatha fits into her career, stating, “I do feel like this is exactly the part I’m supposed to play at this period of my life.” Her deep connection to the role and her enthusiastic chemistry with Locke suggest that the door may still be open for a return.
